What is self doubt?
Self-doubt is a tricky phenomenon that every human on Earth suffers from. No matter how many hardships you have faced and successfully overcome, no matter how knowledgeable or wise you are, the little thought still pops up! But, of course, the more we learn and grow, the better we know how to handle it.
Sources of Self-Doubt
Self-doubt can arise from past experiences and societal influences, in addition to the amygdala, which is the part of our brain responsible for regulating our behaviors by fear or releasing stress. The amygdala’s job is to protect us to survive, so the way it works is with the flight or fight response. And that phenomenon will always stay within us, no matter how we grow!
Dealing with Self-Doubt
So the way to deal with it is to just know when to fight and know when to flight, and that’s where your wisdom will be needed. The ability to know if something is really dangerous or it’s just your self-doubt stopping you is where you can overcome self-doubt. When you can decide and analyze between the both sides, you will then have committed an action that itself will have some stress or fear feelings associated with. And that’s a normal part of growth, so as you are in a growth journey, you learn how to embrace those emotions and seek them more.
Assessing Risks and Benefits
You have to assess the risk benefit and the truth from the wrong. Here is an example: It’s like skydiving; you’re fearful, stressed, irritated, but once you jump, you understand it was a good decision, and all the self-doubt is dead once you land. The is the parachute gonna stop working? (Valid part of the doubt) but chances for this to happen are very low. What if you don’t like it? (False) Through it, you will surpass a big fear and be more courageous in many things in your life. What if it feels like I’m dying? (False) You will feel like a flying bird. The is air going to do something to me, and it will never stop until you jump! But when you land, you realize that a lot of your thoughts were just invalid!
Embracing Growth
So this is life; you will always have self-doubt, but you have to learn and become a master of knowing when you’re being tricked or being at risk! If you look at life with the mindset of it’s better to do it and let the result be whatever it could, you will be most likely to do many things that will themselves give you experience in overcoming self-doubt! In life, we never know the results of things truly! Because if you analyze, you will always have positives and negatives, but that’s the beauty of it!
So better keep embracing trying and doing, no matter what old result you had yesterday, because yesterday is gone, and today is in your power. It’s the present, the moment where you feel it all! So better to regret doing it and learning from the mistake to grow or just regret of never trying. Believe me! Never trying hurts most than anything else!
